Campground In Cosby, Tenn

My husband and I recently purchased a 35' tow behind tow hauler. We have booked an RV site in the Cosby Campground in the Great Smokey National Park, via reserve america, a site 40.5' long. My concern is getting this trailer into, around and eventually backed-up into our site. Can anyone tell us how the roads are inside this campground? Can we maneuver without taking out a tree, or half of our trailer? Thanks

Been awhile since I have been there but I think the two or three loops are not too bad... You can tell the original camp sites were built for tent camping sites haha...

This meaning you park along the road and walk into the tent pads area etc...

Here is the official site link... Hope it helps... Check the map section...
    COSBY CAMP

If the tree cover will permit you might be able to spot your assigned site from GOOGLE search... This doesn't work for the camp sites at ELKMONT however. Can only see the site road in a couple of places using SAT VIEW there...

Welcome to the forum, have you ever been to a National Park? That is a huge travel trailer for National Park camping.

You booked a 40.5' site yet you have a rig that is 55' or more.

According to the GSMNP website, you are too long for any campground except Cades Cove, Smokemont, and Look Rock. You will be at the maximum length at Cades Cove and Smokemont and will have a tough time getting into a site.

    Here are the GSMNP campground length restrictions;
    http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/frontcountry-camping.htm

    Maximum RV Length

    Abrams Creek
    12'

    Balsam Mountain
    30'

    Big Creek
    No RVs

    Cades Cove
    Trailers-35'
    Motor Homes-40"

    Cataloochee
    31'

    Cosby
    25'

    Deep Creek
    26'

    Elkmont
    Trailers-32'
    Motor Homes-35'

    Look Rock
    No size limit

    Smokemont
    Trailers-35'
    Motor Homes-40"

p.s. Put your RV and tow vehicle in your signature and/or profile so when you ask questions people can see your rig and can give accurate advice.
  • If you can find it on Google Maps satellite view you will get a nice birds eye view.
  • when I was at Tappan Lake in Ohio..

trailer is 30 feet... and they put me in a site for 25 feet max..

so 4 plus foot of the trailer was hanging over a small creek.
I had to empty the rear storage compartment.. and the truck was in the roadway till I setup the trailer and blocked the trailer wheels.

the hitch of the trailer was 6 inches from the roadway. but it fit.

and I am fairly New to large camper trailers.
  • It is T-I-G-H-T. I am not so sure you will fit. The roads are pretty narrow and maneuvering a long rig will take some expertise. Call the park and speak to a ranger and ask their opinion. I live not too far away from there and have driven through with my truck only and thought I would not want to pull my 30 footer through it. There are other private CG's all over the Cosby area that will accommodate you much better.
