DW and I prefer to camp in National Parks/National Forests whenever we can. We spent 2 weeks last year driving the entire Skyline Drive/Blueridge Parkway. The only time we stayed anywhere but a National Park/National Forest was when we had the grandkids stay over for a weekend. We went to a commercial CG so they would have a playground and swimming pool.
The commercial CG will have more amenities, like electric hookups, water at the site, etc. The NP/NF will likely have no electric, and water somewhere in the park where you can go fill up your fresh water tank. The real question is do you like to boondock?
