Let me answer as an engine professional with no clue at all what you vehicle/engine is:
* There is nothing good that happens when an engine is idling.
* The statement about cooling a turbocharger might be correct if it does not have a water cooled bearing section.
* Changing out lube oil is required by the service the engine has seen. If you don't want to get a lube oil analysis (~25$us), change it at the recommended intervals.
***Some of this might have minor revisions if the vehicle is described in great detail, but I doubt it.

So are you saying at 14 below zero just jump in and take off driving highway speeds is OK? I'm no engine professional but common sense tells me it isn't a good idea.
Exactly Right ! I think there is a big difference between 'idling' and 'warming up' an engine.
I want good oil pressure to all the little nooks and crannies of these new tighter tolerance engines. Even in warmer weather, that takes a minute or two. And warm oil flows way better then cold oil (even room temp oil).
And after moving out I always take it a little easy until the gauges have moved off the left marker.
