Changing oil and engine idling after long trips?

I recently took a trip from west palm beach all the way to Portland, before I left I changed the oil and oil filter. The trip (with much site seeing and detours) was about 5,200 miles. Is the wear and...

For my diesel, I always let it idle for at least 5 mins if the engine is cold. I try to have the engine Temps over at least 100* before I baby it out to the road,now this is not towing. If I'm towing then I get it warmer before heading out. As for the engine oil I change that once a year according to the trucks oil life monitor.
