Changing oil and engine idling after long trips?

I recently took a trip from west palm beach all the way to Portland, before I left I changed the oil and oil filter. The trip (with much site seeing and detours) was about 5,200 miles. Is the wear and...

Start it up and drive at a moderate pace for best warm up.
If you are camped right on the on-ramp maybe 55-60 MPH is enough until you see the temp gauge move off the lower pin.
Engine will spend way less time being cold if you put it to work.
