Changing Tires

We are new to RVing and I'm trying to outfit our new 27ft Cougar with all the necessary equipment. Is it better to use a tire change ramp or a hydraulic jack to lift a tire off the ground for removal? What are the pros and cons of each method?

Thanks,

  • Bottle jack under spring next to axel. Acouple strokes & it is off the ground. No slip risk under the flat spring.
  • For me it is so much easier to place a bottle jack with small piece of wood blocking under the u bolts on the axle itself. Then only have to raise trailer/axle about 2" to remove wheel. I have used the ramp method and in my opinion is more dangerous due to the height needed to get the other wheel to clear the ground (due to the spring equalizer movement).
