Remember also, 4x4 or AWD is useless without proper tires. If you have a 4x4 with summer tires you're not much better off. If you have good tires, especially with the severe service emblem, then winter conditions will be no concern for 95% of where you want to go, even with a 2 wheel drive vehicle. For the remaining 5% of the places, a 4x4 gives you extra insurance and capability.
fwiw, I think buying a 2wd Jeep is a pretty poor investment. A wrangler is designed for off roading, and is comprised on road because of it. Getting a 2wd Wrangler means you're now compromised on road AND off road.
The new Wranglers are worlds better than the older models, but they still ride and drive significantly different than a regular passenger vehicle. Some people love them, others can't stand them because of their road manners. Make surr you take a prolonged test drive if you want a wrangler.
