Depends on your setup and where you are camping.
When I drove from Michigan to Death Valley and back last December, a generator in the truck bed ran almost all the time unless I was hooked up or it was well above freezing outside. Gasoline is easier to get and cheaper than propane. It kept the tank heaters operational on the road, and a 700w ceramic heater going in the cabin.
Camping at natural bridges Utah during a blizzard with temps around 0F, the rangers didn't complain that I let the generator run all night.
Only trouble I hit was coming home, early January, ran into -14F in Colorado the cold water branch for the bathroom sink froze, but not the main lines. Elkhart ran those lines outside of the cabin, and inaccessible without removing the black tank or i would put heat trace on them. Luckily there was no damage.
