Coleman 16' TT

Hi all, Newbies with another question. We have been looking for smaller TT. 16-18'. We had comments in another topic about us finding it too small. We started out looking at Teardrops and have been increasing the size of trailers we are looking at. As we are going along, we are making a list of things that are must have's. Right now we feel pretty comfortable with the size, considering that we intend to spend as much time outside as possible. So that being said, we looked at a Coleman 16FB today. We really like the layout, there is much more room in this one compared to other brands we have looked at. Would like comments on this trailer and the brand as well recommendations on other brands. There are a couple of things I am concerned about about, First that the Coleman is not the company it once was, having sold the rights to the name. Secondly would like better insulation in the walls. Talking with DW today about heat, so suggested that we just plan our trips according to the weather so it would not be that much of a factor, but I don't want to limit our destinations based on the time of year.
Looked on the web at Casita and Scamp and see they have much better insulation, but looks like neither have island Queen bed with a regular mattress.

Thanks
Terry and Pam

  • Thanks for all the good info. We have looked at all the above mentioned trailers and they all have their pluses and minuses for us. Dry bath is a must, DW is flexible as far as island bed. I am less flexable don't want to have to crawl over one another to get out of bed. Insulaiton is pretty important. I will look into the winter package for the coleman.
    The TV is an issue by itself. We do not have one yet. looking to narrow down TT choices and pick buy TV based on that. Not looking for TT larger than 21 or 22 and 5000lbs. Thought we could get by with Honda Pilot or Toyota or similar size, but found that will not work. Will be looking at larger SVV's or possibly PU. DW is not happy about PU option, but she has agreed to be open minded. Once we get TV want to rent so TT's to get feel for towing and options etc.
    Budget is 50k max, but would like to be much less than that if possible. definitely looking at used for both.
    DW retires in early 2016 so we have time to do research, only limiting factor is age of current car.

  • Our Coleman is about two years old now and we are very happy with it. We ordered our with their winter package that adds some insulation. Just got back from a 6,600 mile trip with no issues at all.
  • forget about the campers for now. tell us what your tow vehicle make and mdel and we can guide you. Oh and whats your budget?
  • I think you'll have to decide if it's more important to have the island bed versus a dry bath versus better insulation. I don't see anyone who puts all three in a lightweight trailer.

    Casitas have better insulation but no island bed and a wet bath;

    Coleman has the island bed with a dry bath but little insulation;

    Retro 177 has the island bed and insulation but a wet bath.

    The Escape 17 has better insulation, a dedicated non-island bed, but a wet bath.
  • there is no Coleman RV company anymore. that name has been sold, just like Westinghouse, Bell and Howell and many other now defunct companies.

    the Coleman TT's are made for Camping World, who bought the rights to the Coleman name, by Thor Industries.
    all of the Colemans are twins of Thor's Aerolite or Kodiak divisions.
