Wait a second.
I just noticed the round trip mileage assumed and that $5500 a year for gas doesn't tally.
If you made that round trip of 70 miles a day, 5 days a week, for 50 weeks (there are still some school breaks?) you end up with a total mileage of 17,500. If what you're driving gets 20mi/gal., your gas total would be 875 gals. Is gas over $6 a gal. in Washington?
I quoted the cost based on a possible max 70 miles round trip, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year at about $3 a gallon for gas at 10mpg. I overestimated because of certain factors. #1 mpg is not set in stone, #2 price per gallon is not set in stone, #3 actual miles traveled is not set in stone.
So...
70 miles round trip x 5 days a week = 350 miles per week
350 miles per week x 52 weeks = 18200 miles per year
18200 miles per year / 10 miles per gallon = 1820 gallons
1820 gallons x $3 per gallon = $5460 rounded up = $5500
Other factors to consider are the 70 mile round trip is mostly freeway driving. Does not take into account any city driving needed to be done each day.
