Before you spend your time and money, make sure there are places you can legally park overnight. You say you don't care if people know you are in the van, but that will be the most likely way to get noticed and reported to authorities if you are parked someplace you should not be. Second your generator, portable generators around here frequently "go missing". Make sure it is well secured - even if you are inside while it is outside!
