2007 rig here. Bought it 'new' after it had been sitting in lots for over a year. You just know it had never seen a bottle of wax before. Caught it before the chalking started.
At a year old, with a good gel coat, the surface should not need a cleaner wax. Wash thoroughly then apply the best, read expensive, sealant/pure wax that you can find. It takes the same labour to use cheap stuff that only lasts a few months as the expensive stuff which will last up to a year. How much is your time worth?
The trick is to NOT let the gelcoat get into a chalky state. It is much less labour to keep it looking good than to restore it.
