The primary purpose of my smart mode Converter/charger in my RV is to change 120 Volt A/C power to 12 Volt D/C power.
My Converter/charger not only changes A/C power to D/C power it also acts as a smart mode battery charger. This means when I am plugged into a 120 Volt power source I am able to run all of my fixtures/appliances that need 12 Volt D/C power without drawing my POPUP batteries down.
While I am plugged into Shore Power I am actually charging my deep cycle RV battery bank at the same time.
When I am not plugged in Shore Power my fixtures/appliances that need 12 Volt D/C power still operates from my 12VDC Battery bank. When my battery banks runs down to around 50% charge state then I connect the Trailer Shore power directly to my 2KW Honda generator 120VAC receptacle which powers up my smart mode PD9260C converter/charger and will recharge my battery bank up to its 90% charge state in a quick three hours generator run time.
I will continue to call my PD9260C Converter a converter/charger unit as both functions are most important to me. My OFF-ROAD POPUP operations does not function well without having both 120VAC and 12VDC functional systems.
By installing solar panels I can reduce the requirments for a 120VAC power source somewhat but not completely unless I went to solar in a hugh way. The BATTERIES is the primary source of power for my POPUP operations and must be charged when discharged with either 120VAC from shore power or generator source of power or directly from solar panels if I had them. To me the solar panel function is to charge my batteries.
My OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer functions are all centered around my BATTERY BANK capacity. Without my batteries I am dead in the water...
