I have had both; DTV for fifteen years and switched to DISH about a year ago.
I GREATLY prefer DISH over DTV.
DISH doesnt charge you for HD or DVR.
DISH gladly changes your service address when you travel so you get locals.
Directv HD does not work with any of the carry out automatic domes.
Also, DISH has an eastern arc and a western arc which are in different areas of the sky.
With my Winegard Pathway carryout auto search dome ($400), when you power up the box a menu asks which arc you want and goes and finds it. You have options as far as tree interference.
Right now, DISH has some great 24 mos offers for about half of what DTV costs.
I use a Hopper and one Joey at home and carry a 211Z for the motorhome.
