We did a similar trip with our family of 7 in April, 2017. My wife and I flew to Las Vegas a day early. One of our checked bags was a big cooler with we packed full of stuff. Put a chain through the handles with a TSA lock on it. Picked up the rental and spend the day outfitting. Each person brought a small sleeping bag on the plane and we bought towels, pillows, chairs and some other odds and ends. At the end of the trip we donated everything we couldn't fly back with to the Salvation Army.
That was our test trip - we ordered our new Class C later than summer.
