Do you level with slides out?

Upgrading to 5th wheel so I've been searching the web and came across this leveling video (even thought it's not a 5th, lol). So, who puts the slides out before leveling? We never have, maybe we've been doing it wrong?
How to level your camper on YouTube
  • I believe the OP was about 5th wheel trailers, not motorhomes. I only know of one motorhome manufacturer that says slide out then level. Getting ready to go, unlevel and then slides in. This is Monaco.

I have never heard of a 5er that says to do other than level first, then slide. Getting ready to go, slides in and then unlevel.
  • I always leveled my MH, then put out the slides. if just overnight I didn't even bother putting out the living room slide.
    bumpy
  • I read once, don't remember where but it said to level first then put slides out. I read that when I first got my TT with slides
  • level first. put slides out,, adjust level if necessary... read owners manual
  • We have always leveled with slides in first, but on our last RV that only had one slide and it was a full wall slide, we had to put the slide out first, then level. When we first leveled then put the slide out we found it was off.
  • You will get lots of worthless opinions but it depends on each particular RV. Many with full slides want slides out first. Some it doesn't matter. Check your manual. It can be different depending on manufacturer.
  • Have always leveled first.......then while I'm hooking up utilities/setting up camp site/retracting awning/doing the outside stuff, GF is running out slides and setting up inside.

Have moved 5vr three times from one site to another site with slides still extended.
So those three times I re-leveled with slides out. Found it more of a PITA also.
  • I didnt watch the video but we level side to side and front to back before the slides come out. I can't imagine having the slides out and then having to move the camper forward and\or backward to lift one side of the camper up.
  • My rig has an auto-leveling feature and we level first and then put out the slides. My previous 5th wheel we did the same procedure. For the Class A crowd, I read in my cousins manual to never level with the slides out.

I have never found an issue with the weight of the slides causing a leveling issue. Perhaps they do in those little bumper-pulls.
