Doe Size Matter in an RV?

We are soon to retire and plan to travel with an RV trailer. For a trip consisting of several weeks at a time, what's our best bet? Storage and bathroom are important. Not much else. Will be pulling with midsize suv. Some rv's are tailored for the weekenders and some for weeks at a time. No rustic camping planned. LOL. Please advise. Raycool.

  • You will want to match the size of the trailer to the capabilities of the mid-size SUV. Once you know what you can tow then focus on the floor plan you like. To me, size is less of an issue if you are only talking a few weeks at a time.
  • First of all, welcome to the forum!

If you are going to be pulling with "a midsize SUV," the first question is WHICH one. They are not all created equal. And with which engine, as most are available with at least two engines, which all goes to determine both how much they could pull as well as how much you might find comfortable pulling.

Mid-size SUVs capability range from maybe 3500 lbs to 7700 lbs total trailer weight, and the former will limit you to a pop-up or a very small rig indeed.
