Advise: If you plan on traveling with cats, get them conditioned to the car or truck NOW! Don't wait till the day you hitch up to go to break them in. Too late then. Train them now by taking short run-around trips with them.
We've always had cats and never had a problem, except for the one we have now. Little did we know, he's the only cat we've ever had that gets car sick. And ITS NOT FUN! Barfing and pooing uncontrollably because he's also scared out of his mind. We've learned how to deal with him, but it's taken 7 years too!
We have found in 30 years of camping together, from tents to pop-ups to travel trailers in all kinds of places, states, and everywhere, that other dogs are no problem.... except for the occasional poop on the ground.
We've had a couple pretty wild dogs that weren't socialized very well. It took a few camping trips to calm them down (to stop barking at everything that moved). But they do train if they have the 100% undivided attention.
We just acquired a 10 year old Dachshund who is really a pistil. She's not been camping yet, and she barks at every noise... I mean every noise! That gets our other Dachshund barking now, and the two together are awful. Hopefully, we'll have them calmed down before we take the camper out again.
So yes, sometimes there are barking dogs. Sometimes there is poop. Sometimes neighbor campers can be real A$$'s. But the 1 percent of the time still is not enough to ruin it for the remaining 99% of the time. Every campground is different, and every visit to the same campground is different as different people come and go all the time. That's the beauty of RV ownership. Even if you are parked somewhere a few days, eventually, people leave and new ones come in. Constantly changing. That's what makes it so interesting.
