Back in the year 2000, we purchased a house. With the house came a "home warranty." After the first good rain, we had water leaking round the chimney. Call the Home Warranty people who set us up with a roofer of their choosing. Turns out, the home warranty only covered the cost of the actual shingle. The leak was caused by the deteoriation of the sealers around the chimney. And the warranty ONLY paid for the shingle replacement. Guess what they did not pay for? The price of labor, the materials to seal the shingles around the chimney, the new flashing around the chimney and the nails to nail down the shingles.
So much for home warranty!!! It cost us a over a thousand dollars and the insurance paid out about $30 for a few shingles. That's when we learned that some warranties are really a joke!
Actually, what we did was cancel the policy and insisted on getting a refund for the unused warranty period. Unbelievable, they finally agreed and pro-rated a refund, which ended up being about the difference in price for the repair. .... Money we forked out when we purchased the house as it was bundled in the house loan.
Rubber roof on a camper? I'm not surprised!
Was that a new house?
In my area,Ontario all new houses have 7 year builders warranty,,
In Alberta its one year only..good luck finding the builder after sale to fix anything there, they come and go change their name..
Flashing around the chimney is cheap easy fix,,good thing it wasnt something more serious..
