In my area,Ontario all new houses have 7 year builders warranty,,
In Alberta its one year only..good luck finding the builder after sale to fix anything there, they come and go change their name..
Flashing around the chimney is cheap easy fix,,good thing it wasnt something more serious..
They get you here too. In Ontario the 7 years only covers foundations and major structural. The rest is only covered for 2 years even though individual materials will have different manufacturer warranties. Depending on the builder, you usually have to fight for repairs as they will try to deny everything, much like insurance companies. Onus is on you to prove fault. I spent thousands on inspection reports to prove that my tile floors were falling apart due to improper installation and not because of my 50lbs dog. Even then I had to sue the builder to get results.
Most people can't be bothered to put up a fight and builders/manufacturers know that. Read the fine print and fight for whatever you can.
