In a previous life I had an extensive education in microbial physiology and genetics. Yes, we have an immune system. And a major player in that is your skin. If it is unbroken. Surgical gloves simply act as an additional, unbroken skin barrier. Use them once. Take them off correctly. Dispose of them correctly. Things may look clean from our perspective, but . . . Take a quick look at your fingerprints. See all those microbes there? To those little dudes, your fingerprints are roughly the size of the Grand Canyon. Just because things look clean does not mean there are. And soap is an emulsifier, not a disinfectant. Use it after you dispose of the gloves. And use disposable towels.
I buy my gloves at Costco. I'm wearing them from the moment I start working around not only anything associated with dumping the tanks, but also the power pedestal and the fresh water spigot - just in case the guy before me didn't. A great high school/college Biology class or, a Bact or Immuno course at the upper division level, might suggest that the last time you had (even a mild case of) diarrhea or an upset stomach, it was because you didn't glove up.
Not just 'safe sex' anymore guys, Gotta wear protection all the time. :).
