Sorry in advance Moderators if this post belongs someplace else but I had to share this because we are just getting started and this incident made the wife and I laugh out loud. Last night it arrived!No - Not the camper that is still several weeks away. But today we did get the sewer hose and the clear section that I'd ordered from Amazon. Got the Rhino 15' Sewer Hose Kit in case you are wondering. Naturally the ever curious Daughter had to know what was in the box and so I tried to evade the question just a little with a very generic "It's a hose for the camper sweetie." Hah! I should have known that this tactic would fail! This girl is already too smart for dad!"Whats the hose for daddy?" She asks... And so - trapped - I gave her the 5 year old explanation of how the camper connects to the sewer/dump and how the holding tanks need to be emptied...I can't really explain the look on her face. But its was PRICELESS! Clearly she had never considered how the potty would work in a camper and frankly she'd probably never considered how the potties in our house really worked... But now she knows (LOL) and seemed satisfied with my "Dumping tanks for 5 Year Olds" class - she went on her way with the rest of her evening. ;-)

I can only imagine. If only you knew how she would react you could of had a camera ready!

When my daughter was about 4 - 5 years old she asked where the "stuff" in the toilet went. We lived in a ranch style house with a full basement, at the edge of town with city water / sewage / gas. I took her in the basement of the house and showed her the pipes under the floor going through the wall of the basement, underground to the street. From the street, we followed the line and took a little road trip to the city sewage plant. We did not go inside, but by now, she got the message and was completely thrilled with her new-found knowledge.I think explaining the trailer holding tank and dumping procedures would have been easier. Now, if she asks where the contents of that "stuff" goes once it goes in that pipe in the ground .... face it ... you're in trouble!

having grandchildren know it is fun to watch my kids struggle from time to time with these issues, until they shift it to me which is when i say ask grandma and run.

My almost 5 year old son gets sucha kick out of calling it the "stinky slinky" that he had to tell his little friend about it when we went camping last weekend. :)

One of the best cartoons I saw was when a 6-7 year old girl asked her mother what "virgin" meant. Mom went into the whole explanation. Next the girl asked what does "extra virgin" mean. The mother looked and thinks Oh crap, she's talking about olive oil.

LOL. When DS was born my SIL brought her two boys to the hospital to visit our newborn. At some point my Nephew (7 or so at the time) looked at me and ask:

"How does the baby get out of the mom's belly"

In one of the very few times I've ever been quick enough to outsmart a kid I calmly replied:

"The Doctor took him out..."

Left it at that - and - for once in my life it worked - LOL. He said no more about it.

When I dry camp and use the macerator pump to move stuff to a tote tank, or at some places, a rented 250 gallon waste tank (emptied weekly by a "stool bus"), I almost always get an audience.

I've always loved that story about a child that asked a parent where their puppy came from. The parent figures this is about time to explain the facts of life - and tells the child the version for 10 year olds. When the adult finished, the child said, "Tommy's Mom and Dad got theirs from a kennel".
