I use our garden hose to fill the fresh water tank and we drink the water. also drink water out of a garden hose.
In days of old, lead was added to plastics to make them easier to extrude. That ended over 10 years ago when lead was banned from most items used in the household. So any newer water hose shouldn't be an issue.
And I just let the water run long enough to be good and cold so I know I have reasonably fresh water going into the tank.
Now if your also dunking the fresh hose in the garden sprayer tank, then using the garden hose may not be a good idea.
