We are planning RVing for the first time around Lake Shasta /Mount Shasta and back on route 299 to redwood national park and then heading SFO along Us1-/US101 I have few questions.. 1) how is the route 299 for driving 6 seated RV . 2) Where all the places we can pull over the RV and rest ? How would I know which are the places to park . 3) in recreation.gov, I saw reserving RV park ground ? Do we need to reserve it ? there are no free parking available ?

As far as reservations go, if you are going on a weekend, I would defintely recommend reservations. Others more familiar with the area may be able to help with suggestions specific to this campground. Good luck!

299 over the coast range from Redding to 101 is a very twisty route.This road can be a real workout with a big vehicle.There are a number of pull-offs for traffic relief.Weaverville is a good stopping point for a rest.There is camping at Trinity Lake NE of Weaverville, it fills up fast though.Redding is usually hot and the coast will be chilly.We've seen 45 degrees on 101 and 101 degrees on arrival in Redding.Have a good trip and be careful on 299 (eyes on the road :) ...)

if we drive at 40 miles per hour , will it blocks the traffic ?Do people with 6-7 seater RV usually drive this road ?I meant is it common ?

that is called a Class C Motorhome, not a 6 person seater.

i think you need to do more research on Redwood NP. it's a huge area and you need to get a better idea of how it's laid out and what you want to see. south of Redwood NP, many of the redwoods can be visited right along the Ave. of the Giants, parallel to 101, without entering any "entrance". you can just pull off the road and walk right into them. and you may need to make reservations for campsites, if you plan on visiting in the summer, if any are still available.

there are no "entrances" to Redwood NP. it's made of a number of national and state land parcels. there will a number of separate entrances to different areas, parks and campgrounds.
visitor centers will have parking spaces for the motorhome.

Have you tried here for information?

Lots of places to stop and sight see there is lots of day use car parking in the area.
Jedediah Smith is a very nice place to camp close to the Smith river East of Crescent City...

Hmmm...
6-7 seater.
Sounds like a C Class or B maybe.
Either one of that type will be no sweat if it's a newer model.

The passengers should try to stay seated while underway on 299...
Somebody could get tossed out a window or knocked out on that road if trying to move around.

Hope nobody gets carsick easy.

first, it would help if you told us what type of RV(class A, B, C motorhome?) and model, instead of a 6-7 seater RV.
second, not sure how much research you've done on Redwood NP, but it's pretty big and there's lots of options to drive and visit.
do you plan on camping there or just make stops along the way?

and 299 is windy and you'll need to pull over if you are driving only 45mph, to let traffic by.
there's no high elevation along there or 101. DON'T take Highway 1 south of Leggett. not for first-timers. stay on 101.

My friend, you need to get into a bigger veh, maybe a U-haul 20 foot box truck, or a friend with something of considerable size, drive a few miles, in town and on the highway, and get a feel for what you will be doing. And you mention 5 or six people in the vehicle? Driving is one thing, driving an RV is TOTALLY something else. Not trying to be brutal,just honest.
