Just a couple of things to say about your travels. If the cats have a favorite scratching post, take that. If not, get yourself a nice rough cedar plank and mount it somewhere at the right height.
Also, no doubt your nice rig will have a compass up at the drivers seat. Learn to pick a campsite so the cats will have the sunniest windows.
Don't be afraid of high elevations, but do be very afraid of the weather. Having a good weather channel radio is a must. Pay attention to the internet for the five day and longer predictions, and pick your route accordingly. Being up in elevation when it's winter can be so beautiful and you have a pretty good rig there. Should be just fine down to near zero with slides in.
