Folding bikes: buying and carrying

I have seen folders with anything from 8" to 26" tire sizes. I have always thought that some sizes would have very limited options when buying tires.

My Dahon has 20" which is the same size as BMX bikes so there are lots of tires available. Some of the Camping World bikes have 22" tires which I imagine are very difficult to find. Just something to consider for anyone making a purchase decision.

I want to bring the bikes with me, to Brazil.

I will try to contact El Monte in order to receive the bikes if I buy from ebay or Amazon or other internet seller. But the reservation was made with Motorhome Republic and not directly from El Monte. This can be a problem.

Craiglist is an option because I will be at Miami area during 2 days, before the trip and I don´t have to have an shiping address. But it´s not sure that the bikes will be available.

NYCgrrl: I didn´t understand what you sad about storing the bikes.

I have a folding bike from Camping World. It's great for my use.

I think Craig's List won't work in this instance unless you'll be in USA for a time before embarking on your RV trip. And it would still be a gamble. CL would certainly be an option should you opt to sell them at the end of your trip though.

The advantage of folding bikes is that they don't require a rack.

Are you planning on dumping them after two weeks or shipping them home?

Another option is get the cheapest bikes at Walmart and sell them cheap to someone at the last campground where you stay. If you can't sell them just leave them sit with a free sign on them.

Maybe a bicycle shop will rent you some bikes but buying and tossing may be less expensive.

What are you going to do with the bikes when you are done? If you plan to keep them, I would suggest a decent one like a Dahon. Here's a list of Miami dealers:

If you are going to sell them, then just get some from CW and have them shipped to the El Monte rental agency so they will be there when you get there. Just let El Monte know they are coming.
