Gas vs. diesel

Which is more economical? Diesel costs more, but supposedly gets better gas mileage. Anyone have both and find one more economical over the other?
  • I don't think there is a definite answer. In my area, the price difference between gas and diesel fuel seems too much most of the time to favor diesel. I think the difference needs to be less than 30 or 40 cents to come out even and even less before the increased MPG of diesel begins to pay. It's usually more than that here. Also, diesel costs more in other ways. However, if the load is heavy, such as with trailers 35 ft and more, diesel might be the choice. Also depends on how much you tow. Just a few thousand miles a year or much more.
  • Both are similar in milage IMO..

Go gas if no mountain terrain. Diesal if you will frequent mountains...
  • Diesel is more expensive to own, operate, and maintain. But to me, you get what you pay for. I choose diesel.
