- KA4EBUExplorerWe have a place on the Tennessee River and use both. When propane gets cheap, we use propane. I have a chart I made listing the btu usage/cost and based on the rates, propane is usually cheaper, except for the trip to refill - that's a close cost.
If traveling, AC only at the campgrounds. - mboppExplorer

Absolutely
But, if you are on a 30A service, running your A/C and wife wants to run say a toaster, microwave, hair drier or any other high wattage appliance while the water heater element is on you take a chance of tripping the breaker at the pedestal.
Power management comes into play at this point.

x2. Same with refrigerator, although that's easier as we just leave it on Auto. Only exception is when we first arrive at a site and need hot water soon after setting up. In that case, we run it both on electric and gas, then switch to electric only once the tank is heated up. Haven't run out of hot water yet on electic only, even when taking back-to-back showers. - frankdampExplorerIt's on gas when we aren't "moored" and on electric when we have shore power. - OaklevelExplorerUse either, but it uses very little propane in the long run. As stated above if running AC & Water heater on electric it does not take much more to trip a 30A breaker. Our current trailer is our 1st to have the electric/propane option so I tend to just use propane.
- stickdogExplorerWe only use gas when dry camping which is rare 4+ years fulltime and could count the number of times on one hand.
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIDepends.....
If electric is included in site fee.....yes
If electric is metered.....maybe. Depends on cost per kwh vs propane cost per gallon - bfast54ExplorerYes....I do, same reason run Fridge on Elec in campgrounds
- John___AngelaExplorerYes. Generally gas only gets used when dry camping or if fast recovery is needed. (Rare). We are full timers and use about 70 gallons of propane per year.
It makes sense to run on electric here BC Canada as power is 7.5 cents per KWH. - Winged_OneExplorerWhenever possible.
