Not necessarily, which is why I posted what I did. Faulty (worn) points on my 6.5 caused it to run for a period of time, start to stumble and then quit. After letting it cool off for a bit, it would run again then do the same thing. I was pulling my hair out looking for a fuel issue - took the carb off, cleaned it, checked the fuel supply, etc. The folks at smokstak.com said it sounded like points. It was.
But I would agree that we need more with regard to what the OP means by won't stay started.
