generator won't start

Hello guys :Get the generator started ! After a day checking all connections thru the process of elimination ,everything normal , OK except teh generator won't start before Dropping the generator to work on starter I put a a jump cable from a fully charged battery direcly to generator even it shown get 12.8 V. It starts right away, even with the remote. Take the battery off it 't not start, bring the extra battery hook to the built-in it work again. Turn out my built in are shot but somehow still give me 12.8 for light,pumps ,jacks but not enough amps to start the generator.That 12 Volts Interstate white/green looking only two years old! I don't know how the previous owner took care of it ,when I got it do the normal thing. equalize charged it put in lot of distilled water ,it got weaker when run all the slides,jack set up but recharged ok .So get new batteries and some extra on the way. Thank you all .

Well Peg Leg That is exactly happen afterward ,adding to frustration ,get the gas floowing after the ice thaw out , double check the line... but don't understand the nature of the problem untill now. I have to scrub the three weeks plan after three days and return home.will recuperate and starn work on it. Thank you guys again.

When we were trying to stay cool in our Class A this summer, we ran the gen and the front a/c. If we stopped to fill up, of course we turned off a/c. When we were away from the pumps, we tried to start it, but it wouldn't happen. if we waited 30 min to an hour, it started up immediately. We figured it was probably warm and had a cut-off. It was over 100 degrees outside.

If you open the LP tank valve to quick there's a overpressure safety shut off that may kick in. Try shutting the valve off and wait a few minutes then try slowly opening the valve.

Turn on a stove burner until you get the air out of the line to save cranking the starter for a long period.

Thank you guys ; it kind of strange it been start on first crank and running smoothly so i don't suspect any big problems .One things I discovered with the LP generator is that it a gas hog and the time it shut down it suck gas so fast the tanks ice up.when thing cool down I chech and there is 12.8 V on the positive Booths leading to Generator.Also notice the oil is low,thinking may be a low oil shut down fill it to the top mark but it still won't crank over with the remote button or the switch on the generator.All fuses in the camper are good, I guess Ineed to open the access around it and start check out all electrical connections fuses and may take the starter out as you guys pointed out. Turn the starter & give it a gentle tap tap tap with the handle of a hammer. Bendix could be stuck

Nothing likes to be hit.

Can you bypass the starter switch by jumping the starter itself. May be a switch problem.

Before anything check all connections. Not just by trying to wriggle them. Undo, clean, put back. Check all grounds too.

You have an electrical problem not related to lack of propane
The click you hear is likely the starter relay. Try to find that relay and see if you have 12 volts on one side. If so hit the switch it should click and have 12 volts on the OTHER side .that other side should go directly to the starter . If you have 12 volts at the starter and it won't crank the starter needs repair.

Low voltage, bad wire connections, faulty switch, faulty starter, engine is locked....I'm sure I missed a few.
If there is a mechanical solenoid on the starter motor and you hear it engage, and if there is power to the starter motor, there may be an internal problem with the Bendix gear on the shaft. Sometimes, the cure is to remove the starter, disassemble, clean, inspect, and lubricate the motor shaft so the gear has free travel. Other internal starter motor problems involve shorted or cut windings, faulty brushes, or worn bushings.
Could you have a blown fuse/tripped breaker in the circuit from the battery to the starter motor?

After the propane change over usually have to crank a couple of times ,this time it just click ,sound like a relay energized but nothing happen it even not crank.
