One means bad guys have used to enter homes is to turn on an outside faucet and then go bang on the front door to let you know your water's running. Driving alongside someone with a similar message could easily be construed as a way to get catch you off guard on the roadside. It's a shame, but it's not the Mayberry world it used to be.
