Getting RV sites on the road

We have made a couple of weekend trips and now are planning to head out for the big road trip the end of the month. I have made reservations for Yellowstone and our first night, but not for the second night (between Vegas and Yellowstone) or for our travels to Devil's Tower or the way to Rushmore(making reservations for Rushmore this week). How important is it to have reservations in the just passing through areas?. What is the latest you have waited prior to getting a place for the night?
  • We use the apps Allstays or RV Parky and look along our route for the next night to see what is available. We will check ahead with a campground just to see if we need a reservation. Most of the time they will say no and just check in when we get there. Of course it depends on the time of year and certain locations.
  • Not necessary. Some folks can't travel this way though. If you're really concerned call a park the day before when you can better judge where you'll be. Have a great trip!
