Going to look for our first TT

My wife and I are about to start the looking process for our first Travel Trailer this weekend. Other than what is on the checklist is there anything in particular to look for? I have heard a lot of horror stories about leaks, and parts falling off of new ones. Are there any brands that are better than others? We know the layout we are looking towards for the most part but I do not really know what brands are better than others if there are any and if there is something specific to look for to tell if it will present problems right out of the gate. Thanks for any info, this site is awesome and I cannot wait to start making memories with our family.

  • Sorry I should have added some specifics in my post. I have an F350 diesel single rear wheell so I think I should be good with most maybe not all travel trailers. We are looking for a bunkhouse model between 29-32ish feet long. We will probably go with a new one since it seems that most of the recent used ones are not that much less than just buying new. I don't want to spend a ton on it but I know it won't be cheap. I have seen some that look pretty decent online from the low to mid 20's. That is probably where we will start our search. Thanks for the info so far.
  • Don't expect everything right out of the box to be perfect. Trailers take a breaking in process.

Know what your tow vehicle can tow in real world conditions and that means stop too!!! THere is a trailer for just about every car or truck, just don't expect to pull a 30 foot trailer with a Rav4!

There is also a trailer for every budget. Without knowing yours I can only give you shotgun advise.

If you are looking for a very unique floorplan look at some of the Open Range lines, they are really cool and doing things other don't. The one that comes to mind is the TT with a full deck on the side and a sliding glass door!! Way cool design

I guess they have stopped making that model but here is a video anyway because it is super cool

  • IMHO, if you are looking used, get up on the roof and crawl around, take your time, and look closely at all the joints and seams - for any possible water intrusion locations.
