If you are physically able I suggest you get a couple of foldup bikes to take on your trips. You can, at least, ride around the CG if the streets are paved or around town. They foldup into suitcase size and could be stored anywhere. We like the Dahon's but they can be pricey. Three speed should do just fine unless you get more serious about riding.
