Gun laws

Hello all.
I am a very new RVer. My wife and I were wondering what are the laws concerning having a firearm in our RV. Generally speaking that is as I dont need any city, county, stste statutes.
We are law abiding legally licenced responsible gun owners. Going on line to check is a bit much as there are a million laws regarding this.
I am sure there are even restrictions for going into Canada.
Thanks
K

  • It VERY much depends what state you are in, and whether you have a Travel Trailer or motorhome. In states with a "Castle Law" a TT is usually considered to be defensible as a home, a motorhome is not, as you could flee easily.

About 70% of RVers have a firearm in their rig, so it's a common question.

The first thing you need to know is what states have have reciprocity with the state that you have your CC License in. Here is that information: http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html

The "may issue" states can be really nasty about having your weapon in the RV unless it's unloaded, kept in a locked hard sided case, and the ammo stored separately. As you might imagine, many RVers with firearms try to avoid those states.

This is probably the BEST guide available:

Many people get their CC permit in Nevada, as that state has the most reciprocity with other states.

Mexico... don't even think about it!
Canada... If all the forms are filled out and approved before going, and the weapon is unloaded, and locked in a hard sided case. It's all about the paperwork, and respecting the other country's laws.

    Good luck and be safe!

Just ask those heading to Alaska to hunt and passing thru Canada.

Not quite true. We legally took a shotgun into Canada last summer and crossed the US/Canada border six times. A couple of times, there was more of a problem getting back into the US than there was going into Canada. There is a new form needed to get back in the US with a gun...

So, we took a gun, weren't delayed at the Canadian border for entry, and they did not confiscate our weapon.

No..we don't assume any such thing. We ask that people from other countries obey our laws. If that is to difficult for someone to understand, then yes..they encounter our system and no, they won't like it.

Just for S and Giggles tho...ask what happens when someone tries to enter the US with a weapon.

  • As long as it is safely stored inside your RV you will not be bothered anywhere in the USA. Concealed carry or traveling outside the continental US are other matters.
