40 ah batteries?
Assuming you are correct that the capacity of your bank is 100 ah, you only have 50 ah of USABLE capacity. You shouldn't draw batteries down more than 50% before recharging them. Drawing them down like you are suggesting will kill them right quick.
As far as power from your alternator goes, unless you are running some fairly THICK wires back to your house batteries - think welding cable - I doubt you are getting 60 amps. Thin wire is like using a garden hose instead of a fire hose, it's going to severely restrict how much gets delivered.
