There is no question that running a roof air with an inverter is possible. Heck I could do that back in 2009 with the Cobra 2500 watt MSW inverter.
The real question is "how long" and that's a battery capacity problem.
A subset from that question is "how to recharge". Solar can do it, but not cheaply. I so wish I had done so instead of caving in and getting a generator.
My ideal system would be firefly L-16 two volt 900 amp-hour batteries, configured in a bank of 24 volts. Current cost 12 x $742 = $8904.00. That provides about 17 kwh of usable storage.
I have neither the money nor the space to install such a system. So I'll continue to purchase used 12 volt telecom jars (4 for $500). about 4 kwh of usable storage.
