Curious about where you're going to park around NYC or if that is part of the goal. If so, I'd try somewhere in Brooklyn as there are a few spots where you could blend in and might get lucky to find some dedicated parking (homeowner or acquaintance with a driveway).
If you're hitting the road with the RV, you can follow some of the good advice already posted. I'll confirm that living in an RV in colder climes will be a test of fortitude and perseverance as really none of the standard-built rigs have good insulation or good mechanical systems. At least not efficient enough to make it an easy task. If you find yourself in a cold parking spot and are staying for awhile, skirting and underbody heating is a good improvement.
