Help me convince "FHU only" friends to try electric only CG

When you get to the FHU close the valves on your TT and don't tell your DH. After 2 days you can tell him "see" or if it fills the gray half way thru his shower he will tell you.

We have 90 gal of fresh and 55 in each holding tank. DW & I go to a State Park with electric only for a week at a time. We do not use the CG facilities at any time. We can go for a week with a daily shower each day, all our daily washing and normal activities. We have never filled either tank or run out of water.

Wow. There are some amazing places in the area that you all will never get to experience. But, if you all don't go to the state and national parks, that leaves more room for me. ;)

A couple of places in the area you can try, full hook-up included: Elk Neck State Park and Point Lookout State Park. Both have great kids-play areas and are on the bay. Maybe if they get a taste of State Park camping, they might be willing to try a little more 'rustic' accommodations. Honestly though, you can't consider yourself a camper in MD without spending a night at Assateague. The state park has some electric sites, but you must reserve early or go during the shoulder seasons.

We use our state parks every year and they have maybe electric or water only at every site. We use those sites and use the dump station on the way out.
Its not that big of a deal. proper planning is all that is needed. PLUS you always have a bathouse to use if needed.

Sometimes, you just Can't convince people to do something different, no matter what, guess it's a fear of the unknown, you're just beating your head against the wall trying.
Just don't let their fear dictate where you go, you just go where you want & do what you want, we very seldom ever go where there are fhu.

The difference between camping with full ammenaties and without, is a short zip, water on/off shower and a 10 min soak. You should all try it! It will be an adventure!

My Rig is 80 Fresh, 36 On Black, Gray and Wash.. Since I use the park shower and I'm now RVing solo I do not often use the Wash tank (Wash is gray without the kitchen sink... Shower and lavs only in this RV, washing machine if I had one).

I go over a week on 80 gallons, Wife and I went 8 days w/o dumping using methods such as you cite. By my self I dump usually once a week or less. Usually on Sat or Sun or Mon (In the winter I do my CG-CG thing on Sunday. and usually dump the sat before I go to Seneca and 8 days later when I get back.. Summers I do the camp to camp during the week and am not as "rushed" on move day so I dump then)

Many folks do not understand how the tanks work.. But work they do.. I know people who, for example, won't drink water from the storage tank.. ALL my water comes from the storage tank.. The "City water" here (really is city water) is over chlorinated, and thus I fill the 80 gallon tank and let it sit for a few minutes (At least as long as it takes me to get back inside) and by then the water near the tank outlet has dissipated enough bleach to be decent.
(Learned that from the instructions for caring for pet fish by the way.. Amazing what you learn when you read manuals).

To eliminate all but full hook ups from your itinerary serious depletes your options and bank account. Most State Parks while not having full hook ups usually have a dump station. If they don't it is no problem to pull into a truck stop/travel center for a quick visit to the free dump station. SP's and CG's typically have larger sites in more beautiful settings and a dump station works just as well as the hole in the ground next to your rig. The cost of a SP/CG vs the full hook ups facilities is usually significantly less.

Full hook ups are mostly a waste of money for us. Ten minutes at a dump station once a week keeps our tanks clear. On the longer trips we will hit an RV park about once every ten days mostly for the laundry facilities. We camp and have consistently found larger more beautiful sites in SP's and CG's at a fraction of the cost of the full hook up RV Parks. Get more, pay way less.... works for us. :C

You can't even convince hubby, let alone your friends. Reminds me of the story about a lady watching a parade go by. Her son was marching in it. She remarked that everybody was out of step but her son.
I'm a single RVer and seek out RV parks that have FHUs plus cable and wifi. On site laundry and a camp store for something I'm out of are pluses. So are paved sites and a picnic table with a daily newspaper on it every morning. I'm gone all day every day seeing what I came to see. Its OK if they have a pool, public restrooms and showers, dog walking areas and playgrounds. I just don't use them.
Must be the reason for so many different types of CGs.

I considered taking the kids by myself, but honestly 1/2 the fun of camping is the people you go with. At least for me it is.

I may have to replace my camping friends with ones who are willing to "rough it" without full hookups. :D

Tuckahoe does have a dump station. And bath houses of course. When we have e/w/s, we don't leave our tanks open...we dump only when they're full. So seriously, we would dump on the way out when we leave. No big deal. We haven't camped without water before, but I can read the manual well enough to test and make sure the water pump works before we leave home. I'm pretty sure it's the switch next to the water heater switches.

I'm amazed at how much cheaper these parks are. It's nice to camp at the places with all the amenities but seriously it's at least 2x as much at the private campgrounds. That alone is enough to make me try it.

We have been considering Elk Neck too. I like to do the first trip very close to home to make sure everything works and that we didn't forget everything, but Elk Neck would probably work fine.

I'm pretty persuasive (translation: annoying! LOL) so I'm going to keep nagging away in hopes I'll wear them down. I think I may also take the kids just for a picnic & day trip when it warms up. If they like the playground and trails enough, they can join in the nagging...that might help too.

Dahkota, we haven't done Assateague yet. I'd like to try but a couple of our friends told my husband how bad the biting flies were so I haven't brought it up again. Maybe they wouldn't be as bad in the shoulder seasons?
