- hbillsmithExplorerI just this month traded my Travel Trailer for a larger fifth wheel. For the last 3 years we towed our 6500# travel trailer with our SUV that only had a 600# approved tongue weight. I used the Andersen and for me it was great. No sway, no grease and easy to put on and take off.
You can find them used on Craigs list mostly from guys like me that just traded up to a 5er. One thing to keep in mind is that the easiest way to tighten the compression nuts is using a cheap torque wrench (Harbor Freight $20), the extra leverage makes the job so much easier. The folks who experienced performance issues, with the Andersen hitch, were those who were expecting 100% weight restoration to the front axle. The Andersen hitch is not as strong as some of the other hitches, in that area. I too, was one of those who was concerned about how much weight it was transferring. I have close to 1000 lbs tongue weight. Between scale weights and measuring, I found that it is transferring enough weight to meet the specifications for my tow vehicle. There are some (Ford is one) newer tow vehicles that do not require 100%, on front axle weight restoration.
The folks with lighter (more like 700 lb) tongue weights don't appear to have issues.
I like the Andersen mostly because it is light weight, it's quiet, and I don't have to coordinate the color of my clothing with the color of grease I'm using on the hitch. There is no grease.
It would be perfect for an SUV, pulling a smaller trailer. If you want to throw it in your back end, you may need to worry about a little road dirt, but, no lubricants to mess up your carpet. - TerryallanExplorer IIYou do know. That IF you hide sway under a special really expensive hitch to control the trailer. You have other problems that may someday jump out and bite you someday. Find the reason for the sway, and fix it.

Just about any WDH will do the job, From a Reese to an EZ-Lift. I use a EZ-Lift for my 31' TT. I had a Reese for my 27' TT. Both do the same thing.
- ggrant119ExplorerIMO .. I have not seen a lot of Anderson WDH hitches on the road. I don't know why. They might be the best ever built but I went with a hitch that was popular in case I ever needed help with set-up, parts or adjustments.

I went with a Reese Straight-Line Dual Cam ... because I felt price vs. everything I read on forums.... I'm happy with my decision.

They are not low cost leaders, but where properly engineered to eliminate sway.
This was developed because the guy had towed a trailer back in the late 50's with a early 50's car, that could not handle the load. Sway was dangerous back then.
