...and another view...we go wherever we want and we honestly have no problem fitting our 40' motorhome into forest service campgrounds, national parks, state parks, COE, county parks and city parks. No, we don't fit into all of them but there are always plenty in the area. Public parks are always our first choice because we like nature. RV parks are last on our list. A RV is self-contained so you don't need hookups.
I will say that most of our traveling is in the west now and sites are longer. However, we have traveled east, too.
I would suggest you pick out a selection of parks that you would enjoy going and see if you would be able to fit into them. It does take research but there are plenty of good sites online to find your answers.
As far as running your generator all night in a campground. No, you can't. Campgrounds have specified generator hours. Generators are noisy and people like to sleep, too. :)
