I have a reservation in a private park in Savannah GA, selected for location, with full hookups for $47 a night. Nearby state parks are either $37 or $30 a night for water, elec site. The more expensive one is closer into the historic district and tourist activities, but both are similar in amenities and atmosphere. If I want to go to one out on Tybee Island, where I can walk to beach and am in the middle of the local beach party atmosphere, but have to drive into the city of Savannah, the city (Tybee Island) owned park runs $59 a night for full hookups..
This comparison shows location seems to matter more than ownership. However, GA state parks almost always are less expensive than privately owned campgrounds. I tend to pick state parks because generally I like their atmosphere best; however, I do stay at private parks when location is important.
