Here is a little different viewpoint.
Purchase a new RV in spring 2014 for $20,000
Camp for two weeks vacation and several weekends for a total of 20 nights
Spring 2015 the RV is now worth $14,000
Cost per night = $300
Kind of makes the $20 to $40 per night fees seem pretty inexpensive, doesn't it? :B
Ohh yeah, I don't even look at it that way. I think about the finance payments I have made and calculate a per night cost off that, I still come up in the middle 100s of dollars per night after two years!
But, all that said, just like everything else it's opportunity cost. A person or family could easily sit at home with the lights off eating oatmeal for every meal and survive. But, what's the fun in that?
The nice thing about an RV as opposed to say Disney World is that you own something that you can continue to use for enjoyment over and over again. Now, don't go over to DISboards.com and tell those people this... They are convinced handing a mouse a 100 dollar bill just to get past a turnstile to be allowed to stand in lines and pay triple the going rate for food is MAGICAL! :)
