How much to repair?

Put enough water in the tank to compensate for the hot water tank filling as well (if the valve is open).

Open a cold faucet.. or all of them.. and turn the pump on. You should hear air escaping or water spitting out.

Check the 'city water connection' outside and see if its leaking air or water. This is common, and if it does the check valve there is bad.

The pump turning off by itself for a time period makes me think its over heating, which prob means water is not being pumped thru it. Check to make sure you didnt close a valve that should be open. Follow the pump line back to the tank as far as you can.

There are no really stupid questions here, just some that are hard to answer at times.

It can be really confusing for a newbie; it can also be confusing for an oldbie like me. We have to be sure of the direction of all the shut-off/diversion valves. Also, once I spent an hour before I realized the tank drain valve was open. Closed it and faucets started squirting like Old Faithful. Make sure all low point drain valves are closed. Also I found that by cracking the pressure valve on the Hot water heater, the trapped air has a place to PSSS out to.

on the pump inlet is a plastic housing,, You likely did not drain it, if it froze and cracked than you can easily replace it,, It just screws on

In the upper end is a top end pump with professional installation.

Thank you for your help. I was the one who winterized it, I opened each valve one by one, while having an air compressor blowing air through the lines. Once water stopped coming out, I stopped.

So I can see why there'd be tons of air in the lines.


I may go up to the camper this weekend. I will try to run the pump again. And locate it, and try to get water to come out.


Is there anything wrong with, turning on cold water on my sink, then turning on the pump and waiting, with the idea the pump will "push" all the air out that line, then close it or just wait for water ?

Is the pump being "tricked" into thinking there is water pressure, when in reality, it is just "air pressure" with a little bit of water pressure ?

I will give you and estimat of between $10.00 and $300.00

I have wondered each year if my pump was working. Sometimes it just takes a little bit to get the water running through it. I never had a problem with freezing except for the year I had it done because I was out of town.

You do have water in the tank, don't you???
