I can change out my entire Cummins fuel system on the roadside with a $179 harbor frieght tool kit. You will get alot off opinions from those that haven't replaced cp3s, cp4s, and the Injectors from all three companies. They are all really nice trucks. Until you have to work on them. Then there is only one really nice truck.
That is what I am getting at with my question...I know that all 3 have their issues being diesels but are the Cummins usually easier to repair for the most part? It seems like when a Ford breaks down the cab has to ripped off half the time to repair it or someone is saying that replacing the fuel pump was $8000?
My friend becomes highly annoyed at me when I point out he has what is widely considered the most reliable diesel engine. I should be more considerate, since I wasn't the one that had to pay his 5,500 dollar repair when one of his 6 injector tips broke off and sidelined his trip towing a 4,000 lb trailer in middle of nowhere West Texas.
In the end, if your truck is the one that has the issue, it doesn't really matter how reliable all the other same brand trucks are. I've had a friend put a new 6.0 in his Ford, and an Uncle that put a new Cummins in his Ram. Unsurprising, neither were real excited about the unexpected, premature, and very costly repairs.
One thing is for sure, you're unlikely to ever need a 5 grand injector job, or a 8 grand fuel system replaced if you choose the Gas engine over the Diesel.
