Hubby was wanting to buy a 10-year old RV with low miles, but upon glancing at other posts I saw someone mention that RV parks will not allow someone with an older vehicle to stay. How old is too old? If we purchased a brand new travel trailer how many years would it be allowed into a park?

I have yet to meet the CG owner/operator that can tell the year of every make and model of RV by looking at it. They have two valid concerns. Is this old beater going to make my CG its final resting place? Will they just remove the license plates and drive off in the Toad or Tow Vehicle, never to return?Does it look so bad that folks on forums like this one will talk about the "wrecks" at my CG?So, When you stop at the office and they have a "10 year rule", lie. If they look out the window (that's why they have them) and you get caught, they don't take away your next birthday. You just don't get to stay. Move on down the road.And if you have an Airstream, you're golden. They haven't changed their looks in 40 years. They're classics.One exception: If you're looking to make a reservation for a week to ten days over the phone, tell the truth. If they won't take you, call another CG.

You mentioned 10 year old rv with low mile or brand new travel trailer. I assume you are looking at a used motorhome vs new trailer due to costs. The 10 yr rule is far and few between. Some of those places you wouldn't be able to get in with a travel trailer anyway. Just because a motorhome has low mileage, does not mean that it's in good condition. You need to have a mechanic go over it with a fine tooth comb. Something to think about is that a motorhome has an engine and will need routine maintenance and repair. If you already have a reliable truck to pull a TT, then that may be a better option. Still maintenance required, but normally nothing that will handicap you that you can not use it or move it. Tt's generally offer more room inside as well. You just need to decide what you can handle and what fits your camping style. We had a TT for a few years. We bought it brand new in 2010 as well as a brand new f250 to pull it in 2010. Earlier this year, we traded the TT in on our class c (in signature below) and traded the truck in on a brand new SUV. I'm not the best of mechanics. We prefer to buy new. We also take out extended warranties for peace of mind. Not only only for us, but I also feel better that if something were to happen to me, my wife would be able to have it taken care of and not have to worry about it. I don't expect her to end her way of life if mine ends.

I have never heard of anyone being turned away. However, if you do go to a high dollar (fancy) resort, they may be more critical. The key is to keep the RV looking nice and maintained. Personally I would never go to a place that has that rule and my RV is not 10 years old (yet).

My Motor home is now over 13 years old, and I so far haven't been turned away. and that's probably because I don't go in for staying at Resort parks. Sooner or later these type Rv Parks are going to figure it out that not everyone can upgrade to a new rig every 10 years.

Hi,When I was looking for my 2nd RV I limited my choices to units that were no more than 5 years old. Plastic parts do fail over time. Chassis parts eventually become hard to find or unavailable.

I read that as over 15 years the max stay is 2 weeks.
they certainly clearly spell out the rules however.

If I understand correctly from their rules (section copied below), CA state code doesn't allow "dog-bones"? First I have heard of it, I have never been told not to use my adapter for a 30 amp hookup.

UTILITIES: State code mandates no extensions cords can be plugged into the Park electrical receptacle; one power cord (not to exceed 35 feet in length) from the RV to our receptacle is all that is allowed.State code further mandates that no electrical cord adapters may be used at any time.If you have a 50 amp power cord, you must plug into a 50 amp receptacle; 30 amp cords to a 30 amp receptacle.

The only thing I would not buy is a MH old enough not to have fuel injection. Lots of jurisdictions have tight emission regulations that make it difficult to keep a rig with a carburetor within limits.

Our first MH was an '85 Class C with a carburetor-equipped Ford 460. I could never get that POS to run properly and we only got 6 mpg (4.5 or less at altitude). It had enough smog gear on it to sink a ship. Our current rig has a fuel-injected V-10 and, despite being 7' longer and a good bit heavier than the "C", gets almost 8 mpg regardless of altitude.

all of this turmoil over the 10 year rule. that rule was not put in to be snobbish, it was put in to give management some justification to deny a bucket of bolts from moving in. get off your high horses, JMHO

We have a class C and unless you check my door panel, you won't know what year it is. There are other criteria besides mileage and age to consider when you buy a rig.

I think the time to read the list of NOs and can't do's is longer that the time I would want to stay at a place like this.

Your choice, if you want to associate with the general run of the American Population, stay at local, state and national parks and ordinary RV campgrounds without exclusionary rules. Otherwise segregate yourself by going to the "Marin RV Resort types". Of course some of those private non exclusionary grounds will have residents that are semi permanent or permanent and look like it, that is why we prefer the city, county, state and national parks.

We just bought a 2004 RV in July. We were more interested in condition than age, so if or when we run across one of those parks we'll be happy to keep on driving :)

I've heard of the 10 year rule. Im too good for those shallow people. I would rather spend my money at a campground where I can enjoy the experience and not point out how much less the other guy has than me. Meet nicer folks and maybe garner some new friends. So I to a CG with the rule and make new friends but after my RV hits 10 years old then it chao, TA TA, Sianara, "See ya, wouldn't want to be ya" from that campground management from the park with my ten year old rv. Ten years old can look ten years old or older, but just to say if the rig is 10 yrs old then they don't want ya is just not the place I would want to be with my 9 yr old camper, if I had one! But it will have in 6 years.
