After three years snow-birding here, I recently went through the same process (DL, vehicle regisration, etc) and am now officially a Floridian. Kirk at MyRVMail was very helpful. He also assisted with registering to vote in the state and national elections.
No written or driving test is required if you have a current driver's license from any state except Alabama.
Buying a license plate was not inexpensive - around $300 to $400 depending on the vehicle. And insurance was more expensive here (but there is no deductible for glass, which might be a good thing.)
All in all, it was a fairly painless process.
Gun classes are readily available if you want to get a CCW license here. Out-of-state licenses are onlly valid for 90 days (or so I'm told).
