If your lucky and it does somehow still work, its ability to cool when it's hot out will be greatly diminished.

Not necessarily, had a "slope" issue also. A circuit in the refrigerator shut it down to prevent damage. Had to take mine to an RV service center. There is a way that they reset the circuit board for an incident like this. Check with an RV service center.
