Not necessarily, had a "slope" issue also. A circuit in the refrigerator shut it down to prevent damage. Had to take mine to an RV service center. There is a way that they reset the circuit board for an incident like this. Check with an RV service center.
His refrigerator apparently started working again when he got level, as he wasn't asking why it isn't working now. That points to it not shutting itself down. I bet it accrued some damage. Probably not enough to kill it, yet, but since it is cumulative and non-reversible, it will definitely shorten the life of the cooling unit.
He didn't mention that it started working again. He didn't mention anything other than that trip.
