Thanks for the info. I was stationed at Vandenburg AFB Ca and they had a very nice FamCamp. We will use them as much as we can. I am so excited and can't wait to go. Really looking forward to meeting new people and seeing new places.

As a retired military veteran, you are entitled to use the U.S. Military campgrounds. They are located all over the country and most are very nice. We use them quite often and also stay in them all winter.

About the best place to find out about them is the U.S. Military Campgrounds website. The website is not connected with the military other than it was developed and owned by an retired military person who does an excellent job of running and maintaining the site. It is probably the best military campground site around. I would encourage you to take a look and join if you see fit.

Somewhere on You tube I am sure there is an instructional video on how to give backing into the site directions..... I learned by accident, I pulled into the parking area at an FMCA rally and the person directing used a set of directions that were so easy to understand that... Well, Thats how I learned them

Here they are

Hands in front of you sweep to the right or left (Turn in that direction)

Hands making "Come hither" motions.. Palms toward signaler,, Come this way

Hands Pushing away, palms away from signelar Pull forward (usually)

Arms crossed like a Rail Road Crossing Sign STOP!

You can also use hands spread apart, palms facing each other (Back up or pull forward THIS FAR) moving hands closer to each other as the driver moves RV.

I would also plan a camping trip in the back yard, which seems a little silly, but will really save you some frustration.
Fam-Camps, The PX usually carried the directory and there is one online, Some are better than others and range from WONDERFUL to a parking lot.
Backing into a camp site. First learn how to communicate with your co-pilot, as your turn left and her/his turn left signal might be the same. I am the pilot on our team and my one rule is I don't move an inch if I can't see my partner in the mirror.
Each person should have a job, ie, you hook up the outside - sewer, electricity etc while the partner works on the inside, and then change places and double check each other. This is more important when you leave, you unhook, partner packs up and then double check each other. 1) you leave stuff in the camp site, you forget to lower the antenna, raise the steps, or close a vent.
A shake down cruise will let you know you forgot the salt, coffee, can opener, Where you will store the dirty clothes. It will help you discover if something isn't working well or at all. Youll learn to monitor the black water, gray etc. Even if you don't need it, turn on the oven, (might need a wand lighter) turn on the air and the heater.
Keep a list of stuff you would like to add and what you really didn't need at all. Take those things out, we have so much junk that we never use and I keep threatening....
Keep meals simple, even take leftovers so all you have to do is heat and serve.
The weather forecast might say 110 all weekend, but make sure you have warm blankets. The rig loses heat fast and by 0400 you might be cold.
Your gas mileage will be the horrid and we have learned by long experience that driving 60-65 as opposed to 70-75 will really save you some mileage.
Both of you need to learn to drive the RV, just in case. My friend stepped out of hers and broke an ankle - couldn't drive for a couple weeks and even then it was painful.
Lastly, if you don't know something or unsure, ask. We have tons of very funny stories about silly things that happened to all of us at one time or the other. Campers for the most part, are a great bunch and all you have to do is ask.

Got the camper today. Everything is fine. Got 50ft cable for tv, power surge 30 amp, water pressure reducer, thick mattress foam, chocks, 20ft sewer hose with all the hook ups and little thing to raise high at the trailer and cradle the hose on a slant. Also got two very nice rocking chairs. I did find a small dent you can only see in the sunlight and only 6 inch crease/dent. Talked the general manager into giving me the $239 surge protector for free. Happy with Camping World so far. Thanks

Another thing I would recommend is a power conditioner. The power at some RV parks can make a mess of your equipment. You should at least get something like this:

or at the least, check the power at each site.

Also I would suggest that you have 2 10 foot section of sewer hose with a fitting to join them together. Because not all campgrounds are equal.
Example: I have had to move my TT so the slide would come out on one side with out hitting something and so the steps would not hit a tree or post or the other side. At that point the sewer drain may be further away then a 10 foot hose can handle.

Oak Grove doesn't allow alcohol but the funny thing is the owner will go next door and get a beer from the neighbor. It is a nice looking CG but has many rules. Enjoy your visit.

YES usually 25 feet is enough but a 50 might not be a bad idea.

ALSO.. RG-6 is a bit heavier than RG-59, but a whole lot better, epically at higher frequencies or channel numbers. I recommend it.

When a campground says they have cable. Do I need to bring my own cord to plug into it?
